Another example of moderation being best

A study in Iran has indicated women on iron supplements are more likely to have smaller babies and high blood pressure. Apparently some practices routinely prescribe iron supplements as part of pregnancy. I have only heard of them being used for anemic women in the U.S.

Have you heard Ina May's take on anemia in pregnancy - that it probably is a natural, good thing and we should leave it alone?

Statements like that resonate with me, but they also make me want to get my hands on a good obstetric textbook and dig up some evidence on PubMed. I wonder who is right?

I haven't seen her thoughts on that.

I agree, though, that it's so hard to find what feels like honest information. Similarly with herbal medicines. Conventional medicine dismisses them; midwives rely heavily on them.

I can't find any research that helps me determine what's truth and what's myth!
