Its a shame that someone would opt to miss the most wonderful experience they could ever have to avoid the pain they have never personally experienced but only been told about. I rank having dental surjury with anesthetic as being more painful... but wait that happened in New Zealand and this is the US where you are shielded from pain by multiple layers of pain killer.
I read your blog but comment pretty infrequently, but oh my, that is such a weird mindset to me. I've had two kids (one natural birth, one induced because of placenta problems) and I've also had knee surgery. Recovering from surgery hurts for DAYS AND DAYS. Labor didn't hurt with my first and only lasted a few hours with my second, although the pitocin made this grown woman cry. When labor's over, the pain is gone, unlike a giant incision into your abdomen, which probably hurts for a while. This just makes me cringe, thinking that people will listen to her because she's a celebrity.
Aaaaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh! These people drive me nuts! Not so much that this is their choice, but that this is the choice that gets exposed in the media, over and over. And like Brynne said, people will listen to her.
When did performing unnecessary surgery become ethical? Especially when one of the parties has no say. What about the well-being of the baby?
Oh well. I'd much rather Christina have the right to an elective cesarean section as long as I have my right to an elective vaginal birth.
I am a mother, a labor doula and a non-practicing lawyer. I have two sons, aged ten and six. Aside from a six-year term for college and employment, I have lived in the Ann Arbor area my entire life.
